Words of Wisdom: Makeup Artist Kevyn Aucoin on The Fashion & Beauty Industry

I work in an industry with some of the
meanest people who have ever walked the face
of the earth,  who live and die for the surface.
But the way I see it,  I have a responsibility
to do the most I can do, the way I know how.
Since I know how to apply makeup,  that’s what
I do and use it as a platform.

Whip Hand Cosmetics In The Studio: Fotoula Lambros Design 2012 Lookbook Photo Shoot

Whip Hand Cosmetics had the pleasure of spending this past Sunday at the studio of Fotoula Lambros Design (FLD)  in Detroit’s Eastern Market doing makeup for Fotoula’s upcoming 2012/2013  Retail Lookbook.

Recognized as one of the most promising young designers not just in Detroit, but nationwide, the best way to describe FLD’s design aesthetic is “Eco-friendly Chic.” Made in the USA of natural fibers, her pieces combine body-flattering draping with a surprising amount of underlying structure that makes her clothing extremely versatile and wearable by women of all body types and heights.  Many of her designs are “multi-functional” — allowing you to reconfigure the look of the garment just draping or tying it differently. When we saw Fotoula’s newest designs during the shoot, we were blown away with how far this already fabulous line had come in just a few months.

Check out some of the behind-the-scenes shots we took on the set with Instagram. Joining Whip Hand Cosmetics on the set was fashion photographer Laur Nash, hair stylist Laura Rose, FLD Sales and Creative Director Amy Gutz, Whip Hand Cosmetics Founder and Chief Makeup Artist Riese Lauriat and models Cassie Keller and Jordan Miletti.

Enjoy!

Fotoula will be showing her latest collection at Brooklyn Fashion Week{End} @Industry City, March 29th – April 1.

28 Questions with Whip Hand Cosmetics Model Cassie Keller

Whip Hand Cosmetics Model and Actress Cassie Keller Dishes On Modeling, Fashion, Music, Movies and What Sexy Is (Einstein Quote included!)

1. Who is your favorite fashion designer?  My favorite fashion inspiration is Coco. I miss her boyish minimalist style!

2. What’s the most challenging thing about modelling professionally?  Being different makes my professional life more challenging. I just always have to remember to stick to who I am because that is why I am blessed with opportunity. One person’s negative opinion can suck, but I would not change myself to fit the definition of what someone else wants me to be.

3. What’s your pet peeve?  Cat hair. It gets everywhere. I have to take a lint roller with me everywhere!

4. Favorite song right now?  Van Morrison’s “Into the Mystic”.  I have been playing it over and over. Just can’t help myself.

5. “Beautiful” is?  Believing in yourself.

6. What are the three makeup or beauty products that you couldn’t live without? Moisturizer, chapstick, and a hot colored lipstick.

7. Style is?  Infinite and undefined.

8. Sexy is?  Letting go. Release the inhibitions.

9. What’s your guilty pleasure?  Gossip mags! I hate admitting that too!

10. What’s in your purse?  Too small of a purse and too much crap!  The only thing of substance is my chapstick and hand sanitizer.

11. What inspires you?  The atmosphere and the feel of a place or something is inspiring.  Also Lady Gaga because she just f-ing rocks!

12. When I grow up, I want to be …  Ugh…the future comes so fast. I cannot plan my life. I like to let my life unfold in front of my eyes.

13. Money, Love or the cover of Vogue?  Love. Life without love would be meaningless.

14. Unlimited shoes or unlimited handbags?  Unlimited shoes – high heels are the sexiest thing a woman can own.

15. What are you most proud of?  My relationship with my family. Without their support and love, I would not be where I am today.

16. iPhone or Android?  iPhone. Unlimited free games? Yes, please!

17. Facebook or Face-to-Face?  Face-to-face

18. What do you look for when you choose a photographer?  I like someone with a good, unique portfolio but it is much more than that. I have to have a good feeling off of someone before I will commit to a shoot. If there is no chemistry, the pictures will not have good chemistry either.

19. Your favorite movie?  Anything Tim Burton. His movies always take me to a different place.

20. Personal Motto: My mom always tells me to “shine on you crazy diamond.” Pink Floyd is my favorite and inspires me throughout anything  I do.

21. Favorite Quote?  “The woman who follows the crowd will usually go no further than the crowd. The woman who walks alone is likely to find herself in places no one has ever seen before,” – Albert Einstein

22. Your favorite makeup brand:  WHIP HAND!  Where else can I get the perfect hot colored lipsticks no one else has?!

23. What’s the one thing most people don’t know about you, but should? Sometimes I act like I do not know what is going on. But I am always one step ahead of the game

24. The one thing you can’t live without?  My family.

25. If you could change one thing about the modeling industry, what would it be?  The modeling industry has such a set vision on what they think is perfect. There is no perfect and will never be a perfect.

26. Your advice to aspiring models?  If you feel like modeling if something you are and want to be, then go for it. We live in a new world. I truly believe everything is possible. Just always remember who you are for it does not matter what others think you are.

27. How do you relax? Yoga helps keep me centered in this crazy business. It always helps me to focus. I have to remind myself that I am thankful to have the gift of breath each day. It keeps me humbled.

28. Martini, wine or beer?  Michigan beers  and Italian red wines
